Professor John New is a Consultant Diabetologist at Salford Royal Foundation Trust, the Chief Clinical Officer for NorthWest EHealth (NWEH) and the NWEH Clinical Director of the Salford Lung Study (SLS). He is also an Honorary Lecturer at the University of Manchester.
John is co-author on the Royal College of Physicians guidance for the treatment of obesity and has presented at numerous national meetings about the effective treatments for weight loss in people with and without diabetes.Within Salford Royal John is involved in the insulin pump clinic and was appointed by the National Technology Appraisal Centre as one of two national specialists in insulin pump therapy; these guidelines were published in July 2010. John provides preoperative assessment for people considering bariatric surgery as well as managing their postoperative care ensuring that conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol are successfully managed.
John has also worked with several pharmaceutical companies as a member of their advisory board. His role with GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) involved research on the data held within electronic medical records, both in primary and secondary care, and its use in the development of a game changing electronic ‘real-time’ safety monitoring for a phase 3 clinical trial (Salford Lung Study).
