Markolf Hanefeld, MD, Dr. hc. PhD is Professor of Internal Medicine, Endocrinology and Diabetology. From 1980-1992 he was director of the dept. of Endocrinology and Metabolic Diseases at the medical academy Dresden, 1993 to 2000 he was director of the Institute of Clinical Research of Metabolic Diseases at the Technical University Dresden and from 2001 to 2015 director of the Centre of Clinical Studies, GWT at the Technical University, now senior director.
Over the last 15 years, his research has focused on the importance of post-prandial glucose regulation for the development of atherosclerotic vascular disease and type 2 diabetes. He is an investigator/principal investigator of more than twenty studies of lipid lowering and antidiabetic drugs, a member of the steering committee for several international diabetes trials, has published more than 450 original articles and has received numerous awards
